Big Brown filly Miss Lucky Sevens had an advantage over her rivals at Churchill Downs on Saturday. She was a ‘winner’ competing in a race restricted to maidens over 1600m on turf.
Miss Lucky Sevens had won on debut by four lengths at Arlington in September but a fallen rail hampered several runners, including the Big Brown filly, and stewards ruled no race instead of correct weight.
There were no such dramas for the Wayne Catalano trained filly when she scored by more than two lengths on Saturday. The result improved Big Brown’s first crop tally to 14 individual winners from 29 starters.
Miss Lucky Sevens (2f Big Brown – Fancy Clancy by Rahy) was bred by Charles Fipke and was a $50,000 buy from the 2011 Keeneland September yearling sale. Her dam is a half-sister to Churchill Downs G1 winner Joyeux Danseur (Nureyev) who shuttled to Wattle Brae Stud in Queensland.
Big Brown has been fast-tracked to the top of the famous Three Chimney’s roster after a sensational opening to his stud career. His 2013 service fee has been set at $35,000 making him the most expensive of the Kentucky Farm’s 12 resident stallions.
Big Brown shuttles to Vinery and his first Australian bred yearlings will feature prominently at the 2013 majors. “His great start in North America has taken away the unknown element that is always associated with any first season sire,” Vinery’s Adam White reasoned. “Big Brown won only start as a two-year-old by nearly 12 lengths. He is a Danzig grandson and, like we have seen with More Than Ready, his turf results are every bit as good as his dirt credentials.”
