Noel Doyle was extremely impressed when he inspected Biggles at the 2010 Gold Coast Magic Millions.
Biggles (2g Jet Spur – Be Faithful by Last Tycoon) was part of the Glenlogan Park draft and the locally based trainer had to part with $160,000 to buy the youngster.
That appears a wise transaction after the gelding led home a Magic Millions trifecta in the Hamilton Hotel Handicap (1500m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday. He was coming off an Ipswich maiden victory and improved again to score by more than two lengths from Peppered Black (Falvelon) and Denwood (Greenwood Lake).
“We ended up bidding against Paul Messara and Chris Waller at the Magic Millions,” Doyle recalled. “Luckily, we lasted and finally got him.”
Biggles had pleased at home since the trip to Ipswich. “I thought it would take a good horse to beat him,” Doyle said. “He had 57kg from an outside alley but had worked so well.”
Biggles is by Glenlogan Park sire Jet Spur and is one of 7 winners from Be Faithful. The mare foaled another Jet Spur colt in 2009 and followed up with a Bradbury’s Luck colt last year.
