Champion mare Black Caviar left racegoers searching for superlatives with a sensational Group 1 victory in the Lightning Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.

Black Caviar (4m Bel Esprit – Helsinge by Desert Sun) extended her unbeaten sequence to nine at headquarters.  She spaced her rivals even though jockey Luke Nolen began easing down well before the line.

The victory also highlighted her half-brother being offered at this year’s Inglis Easter yearling sale.  Makybe, as agent for Gilgai Farm, will offer a Casino Prince half-brother to the world-class sprinter as Lot 277 at Easter.

Black Caviar was a $210,000 buy out of the Swettenham Stud draft at the 2008 Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale.  She joins Premier graduates Sacred Kingdom and Starspangledbanner who have also headed the world’s sprint division rankings for the last five years.

Her dam Helsinge has a perfect record at stud.  Besides Black Caviar, she has also foaled Bel Esprit colt Moshe who won both his starts at Bendigo and Moonee Valley in November.  Her latest is a Redoute’s Choice filly born on September 29.

Black Caviar’s rise to stardom will spotlight the progeny of Eliza Park sires Bel Esprit and Magnus at the upcoming Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale.

Bel Esprit has 15 lots catalogued and Magnus has 32 from his first crop.  Magnus (Flying Spur) is a half-brother to Helsinge and he was a G1 winner of the AJC Galaxy Hcp.
