Darley’s champion sire Exceed And Excel took his seasonal tally of stakes performers to nine on Saturday with black-type additions at Flemington and Morphettville.
Anevay (2f Exceed And Excel – Categorical by Hennessy) scored an all-the-way win in the Listed Talindert Stakes for trainer Tim Martin and owner Anthony Gow-Gates. Martin also prepared Exceed And Excel and he bought her for $160,000 at the 2010 Inglis Easter yearling sale.
Anevay was coming off a close second to One Last Dance in the LR Blue Diamond Preview and she is on the fourth line of betting at $13 for the G1 Blue Diamond next Saturday. Star Witness completed the Talindert – Blue Diamond double last year.
The Talindert winner is a three-quarter sister to the G2 STC Todman Stakes winner Krupt who was retired to Lincoln Farm last year after injury curtailed his career to just three starts.
Later in the day, the Lee Freedman-trained Chinchilla recorded back-to-back stakes victories when she landed the Listed Queen Adelaide Stakes at Morphettville.
Racing in the maroon and white silks of Sheikh Mohammed, the filly has won three of her five races to date, all in different states. She won the Listed AGL Solar Power Stakes at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day and added the Listed Elwick Stakes in Hobart last month.
Chinchilla (2f Exceed And Excel – Chestnut Star by Eternity Range) was catalogued but withdrawn from the 2009 Magic Millions National weanling sale by Rothwell Park. She is a sister to Exceed And Excel’s Perth winner Excellar and their dam Chestnut Star is an unraced half-sister to Brisbane G3 winner Jar Jar Binks (Danehill Dancer).
Anevay and Chinchilla join Reward For Effort, Canali, Curtana, Valoura, Internal Revenue, Covered in Class and Exceedingly Regal among Exceed And Excel’s black-type performers in Australia this season.
Exceed And Excel has five yearlings catalogued for the upcoming Inglis Premier yearling sale highlighted by Lot 145, a half-sister to Group 1 winning mare Divine Madonna. He also has a further 17 yearlings catalogued with the Inglis Easter yearling sale in April.
