Black Caviar v Frankel showdown unlikely at Royal Ascot

While connections weigh up whether to start Back Caviar in the G1 Futurity Stakes this Saturday, Juddmonte Racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe said a showdown between the mare and English wonder colt Frankel was unlikely.

The only possibility of a match-up would be the Queen Anne Stakes over 1600m.  But Grimthorpe stated Frankel will start in the G1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes over 2000m at Royal Ascot.

“We’ve got different agendas,” Grimthorpe said.  ” We hope to start Frankel in the G1 Lockinge Stakes in May and then stretch him out.

“I can understand there is tremendous good will out there for the two to get together.  They are the two best horses in the world but we don’t want to mess up our season for the sake of one race.  It would be a great clash, but I’d be very surprised were it to happen.”
