Black-type targets for Scandal Keeper

Brilliant Melbourne sprinter Zamorar is being set for the G2 Yallambee Classic at Morphettville on March 12.

Trainer Butch Bourne decided to bypass the G1 Newmarket at Flemington a week earlier to keep the colt in his own age group at the Adelaide Cup carnival.

Zamorar (3g Scandal Keeper – Chloris by Scenic) improved his strike rate to 3 wins in 5 starts with another runaway victory at Moonee Valley on February 10.  He was resuming from a 15 week spell following a close fourth to Sepoy in the G1 Coolmore Stakes at Flemington.

“He carried 58kg first-up against older horses but pulled up extra well,” Bourne revealed.  “The Yallambee is run over 1200 metres and he will suited at set weights against three year-olds.”

Zamorar is flying the flag for Danzig stallion Scandal Keeper in the Eastern States.  The Yarradale Stud resident sired another promising winner closer to home when the Dan Morton trained filly Secret Scandal won on debut at Ascot last Wednesday.

Secret Scandal (2f Scandal Keeper – Espresso by Bletchingly) worked forward from a wide gate to sit outside Lisicki in the Westspeed Plate (1000m).  She skipped clear in the straight to defeat stablemate Keg Mouse (Danehill Express) by a length.

“Dan thinks she’s a black-type filly in the making,” Yarradale Stud owner Ron Sayers said.  “But we will run her again over 1200m at Ascot in a fortnight before making any firm plans.”

Secret Scandal made $34,000 at the 2011 Yarradale Stud yearling sale and Sayers retained an interest in the filly who is the third winner from Brisbane stakes performer Espresso.  Second dam Mapperley Heights (Sir Tristram) was a G1 winner of the 1984 South Australian Derby for Robert Sangster.
