Blackfriars cleans up at Ascot

Blackfriars is giving his rivals a bath in the lead-up to the 2012 Perth Magic Millions yearling sale that starts on February 14.  The Durham Lodge champion sired his second city treble this year when Drive West, Just Wicked and Kerrific all scored at Ascot on Saturday.

Blackfriars is the reigning champion sire in Western Australia and this year’s title is all but decided.  The son of Danehill heads Westspeed’s active sires with 46 domestic winners of 68 races for earnings of $2.42 million.

Just Wicked (3f Blackfriars – Dedicated Miss by Mukaddamah) landed her second win from three starts in the Westspeed Handicap (1400m).  “She raced up to them easily and then stargazed as soon as she got to the lead,” trainer Adam Durrant said.  “But she dug deep and won well.”

Durrant prepares Just Wicked for his parents Geoff and Vicki and they are considering a G3 WA Oaks start for the promising filly on March 31.

Durham Lodge has catalogued a brother to Just Wicked as Lot 83 for the Perth Magic Millions.  Their dam Dedicated Miss won 14 races to G3 level in the WA Strickland Stakes and Hyperion Stakes.
