Lindsay Park trainer David Hayes pulled the right rein when he scratched Niconoise from the LR Australasia Stakes at Caulfield for an easier assignment in the Davo’s Buck Show Hcp (1100m) at Morphettville.
Niconoise (3c Redoute’s Choice – Nicola Lass by Scenic) was a class above his rivals first-up in Adelaide on Saturday and he will return to Melbourne and be set for the VRC Australian Guineas on March 3.
The beautifully bred colt is a homebred for Peter Devitt and the late Les Gordon and he would be one of Australia’s best stallion prospects with a Group 1 victory at Flemington.
Niconoise races in the same blue and pink striped silks as his older half-brothers Nicconi and Niconero. Together, they claimed 7 Group 1 events and Nicconi has served full books in his first two seasons at Widden Stud.
The Lindsay Park colt continued the winning run for Redoute’s Choice in the three year-old division this season. He started the week with Arrowfield homebred New Wave at Scone on Monday and Team Hawkes filly Girl Gone Rockin added her name to the list at Ballarat on Thursday.
Redoute’s Choice has sired 40 individual winners from his Arrowfield crop conceived in 2008. There have been 36 in Australia and another four in NZ headed by LR Canterbury Stakes winner Burgundy.
Hayes also produced a G1 Blue Diamond Stakes candidate on Saturday when Redoute’s Choice filly Mama’s Choice scored a resounding victory at Caulfield.
