Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes runner-up Bodemeister will stand at WinStar Farm in Kentucky.
Bodemeister (3c Empire Maker – Untouched Talent by Storm Cat) will remain in Bob Baffert’s stable to be pointed at the G1 Haskell Invitational and G1 Breeders’ Cup Classic at Santa Anita before retiring to stud in 2013.
WinStar Farm shuttles Super Saver (Eliza Park) and Artie Schiller (Emirates Park) to Victoria studs. “Bodemeister is brilliant by design,” WinStar president Elliott Walden said. “He was the best stallion prospect on the market.”
Bodemeister won his maiden by 9 lengths in February before claiming the G1 Arkansas Derby by a similar margin. He set a sizzling sectional of 45.39s for the first 800m of the Kentucky Derby before going down a length to I’ll Have Another.
He was nailed right on the line by I’ll Have Another in a thrilling renewal of the Preakness Stakes. “I’ve been lucky to own three Group 1 winners by Empire Maker and Bodemeister is the most special,” owner Ahmed Zayat said. “We love racing him and I really believe he’s just getting started.”
