Boom sprinter strikes at Flemington

Toowoomba sprinter Temple of Boom will be aimed at the Salinger Stakes after enhancing his outstanding record with a stunning win in the G2 Gilgai Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on Sunday.

Temple of Boom (5g Piccolo-Temple Spirit by Special Dane) is part-owned by Eureka Stud’s Col and Scott McAlpine and has now earned over $851,000.  The McAlpines kept a share after selling him for $40,000 at the 2008 Gold Coast Magic Millions.

Temple of Boom was allowed to find his feet in the Gilgai and, with the sting out of the ground, he produced a paralysing burst to win impressively.  “I thought he was back a bit too far but when he got out he really let down,” trainer Tony Gollan said.  “The Salinger Stakes on Derby day is probably our main aim.”

Temple of Boom has an affinity for the straight-six having won the LR Swisse Stakes at Flemington at the 2010 Melbourne Cup carnival and the G3 Aurie’s Star Hcp in August.

Temple of Boom also won the Magic Millions Sprint (1000m) at the Gold Coast in January.  He is a brother to Listed GCTC Ken Russell Memorial Classic winner Spirit of Boom.
