Armidale makes impact in Melbourne

Tasmanian leader Armidale Stud is making its mark at the Melbourne spring carnival with weekend stakes winners Dream Pedlar and Lady Lynette.

Dream Pedlar (West Quest) was born and raised at Armidale and he won the G3 JRA Stakes at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

Lady Lynette (7m Ladoni – Queen’s Own by Coronation Day) took her earnings past $982,000 after winning the G2 VRC Blazer Stakes at Flemington on Sunday.  She cost just $13,000 out of the Armidale draft at the 2006 Tasmanian Magic Millions.

Lady Lynette is prepared at Seven Mile Beach by the father-son training team of David and Scott Brunton.  “Dad wanted Nick (Hall) to push forward from the wide gate and it was  superb ride,” Scott Brunton said.  “She’s a real grinder and it’s just a huge thrill.”

The Ladoni mare will return for the Tesio Stakes on Cox Plate day and the Myer Classic on Victoria Derby day.  “Dad’s changed a few things around with her at home,” Brunton added.  “She’s going terrific.”

Armidale has a yearling half brother to Lady Lynette by Magnus catalogued for the Inglis Premier Sale in Melbourne in February.  Queen’s Own is booked to visit Dane Shadow at Kitchwin Hills this season.

Armidale also bred and sold First Course (Snitzel) in partnership with Toolora Lodge’s Ken and Jenny Breese.  He finished second in the LR Doncaster Stakes at Flemington on Sunday.  His dam Short ‘N’ Sweep has a Hard Spun filly foal and has been covered by Snitzel again this season.
