Boom times for Eureka Stud

Eureka Stud warmed up for the Magic Millions when Teardrop Rock scored a timely win in the Yellowglen Hcp at Randwick on Saturday.

Gai Waterhouse bought Teardrop Rock for $150,000 out of the Eureka draft at the 2009 Gold Coast Magic Millions and she cheered home the winner at the Gold Coast while inspecting yearlings for this week’s sale.

“She had a big weight and did a great job from the front,” Waterhouse said.  “She’s improving all the time and will be set for the Tasmania Oaks next month.”

Teardrop Rock (3f Fastnet Rock – Satin ‘n’ Silk by Zabeel) is from the beautifully related Sydney winner Satin ‘n’ Silk and she is a half sister to the Melbourne Group performer Fusaichi San.

Satin ‘n’ Silk’s last foal is a 2yo gelding named Red Hot Bobby (Red Dazzler).

Eureka Stud has 10 yearlings entered for the Magic Millions including a half-dozen by Red Dazzler.  The Red Ransom horse was a G1 winner of the MRC Toorak Hcp and he has hit the ground running with first-crop winners Dazzling Kind and Daytime Dazzler.

His second crop filly from Biscay Bird will spark plenty of interest from potential buyers when the sale gets underway on Wednesday morning.  Catalogued as Lot 24, the filly is a half-sister to the Scenic Group 1 winners Universal Prince (AJC Derby) and Universal Queen (SAJC Robert Sangster).

Another Red Dazzler with links to Scenic is the colt from Chesapeake.  He will parade as Lot 61 and is a half-brother to G1 VRC Emirates Stakes winner Scenic Peak.

The Red Dazzler filly from Madam Curie (Lot 310) also comes highly rated.  She is a half-sister to the brilliant Mossman fillies Pure Energy (G2 STC Reisling Slipper Trial) and Segments (G2 MRC Schillaci Stakes).

Eureka Stud’s Colin and Scott McAlpine are also firing with the homebred half-brothers Spirit Of Boom (Sequalo) and Temple Of Boom (Piccolo).

They kept a share in Spirit Of Boom and it’s paid off with victories in the 2010 Magic Millions 2YO Classic Prelude and the Listed Ken Russell Memorial Classic.  Local trainer Bryan Guy has him nominated for the $1 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas this Saturday.

The father-son team also maintained an interest in Temple Of Boom and backing their own product proved a wise decision after the gelding won the 2009 Magic Millions 2YO Classic Prelude and the Listed Swisse Stakes at Flemington in November.

Toowoomba trainer Tony Gollan has nominated Temple Of Boom for the Magic Millions Quality Sprint in what could turn out to be a Saturday to remember for the McAlpine family.
