Brazen Beau races on to July Cup

Trainer Chris Waller has confirmed Brazen Beau will be set for the G1 July Cup (1200m) at Newmarket on July 12.

The three-year-old beat Europe’s best sprinters in the G1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes (1200m) at Royal Ascot on Saturday only to be touched off by American runner Undrafted.

Brazen Beau (I Am Invincible) has been signed to begin his stud career at Darley’s Northwood Park at Seymour in September.  “The July Cup is a good option for him after that courageous effort,” Darley Australia’s managing director Henry Plumptre said.  “Provided his post-race recovery goes to plan and it is not a rain-affected track at Newmarket he will race in the July Cup.

“Chris (Waller) feels he will get better with another couple of weeks on the training track over there.”

Brazen Beau is training out of Sheikh Mohammed’s Newmarket yard and will officially become one of the ‘Blue Army’ on July 1.  The Dubai ruler bought the horse for a reported $10 million last spring and leased him back to his original owners On Track Thoroughbreds for Royal Ascot.

Waller has dismissed suggestions of a tactical blunder in the Diamond Jubilee – Brazen Beau raced alone on the grandstand side of the track on ground that jockey Craig Williams believed to be the best available given his draw in the outside barrier.

“We wouldn’t do anything differently,” Waller said.  “It’s a shame something else didn’t go with us and the American horse just got to us.  It was still a great effort and Brazen Beau did us proud.”
