Day 2 – Inglis Great Southern Sale – Exceed And Excel tops Foals

The Inglis Great Southern Sale saw a continuation of impressive results through to the completion of the Foal Sessions on Monday.

A further 42 Platinum weanlings were sold on Day 2 taking the average for that session to $24,368 across a total of 192 Lots.  Another 78 General weanlings were sold grossing $539,950.

The sale’s top priced weanling was the $300,000 Exceed And Excel – Common Smytzer colt from Makybe.  The full-brother to Group 3 winner Exceedingly Good was secured by Victoria’s Ampulla Lodge in partnership with New Zealand’s Ascot Farm.

“He is the best colt we’ve seen all year,” Ampulla Lodge’s Steve Jostlear declared.  “I’ve looked at every colt in every sale and he is the best by a long way.   I gave him a carrot and he ate it, you know that’s the one when they eat the carrot!”

Makybe’s Lorraine Swanson said the farm was understandably delighted with the result.  “The colt has had plenty of interest but we honestly didn’t expect such a great result.  There were about six different sets of people that had multiple looks, there were heaps of hits on his x-rays and we knew that they were pretty much spot on.”

Burnewang North Pastoral topped the vendor list selling all 22 lots for an average of $36,761.  Paul Willetts remained top of the buyer list with 10 lots for $488,000.  Not A Single Doubt lead the stallion averages (three or more sold) at $93,333.

The Broodmare Session (Lots 435 to 618) along with supplementary broodmares (Lots 740 to 762) will begin selling from 10.30am on Tuesday.
