Breakthrough for Sippin’ Bourbon

Former Ilala Stud resident Sippin’ Bourbon was represented by his first winner at Canberra on Friday.  Locally trained mare Buffalo Chase broke his duck in the Nexis Accountants Maiden Plate (1080m).

Sippin’ Bourbon (Hennessy) is an unraced half-brother to 2004 Kentucky Derby winner Smarty Jones (Elusive Quality).  He covered three books Ilala Stud before the Scone based operation sold him to the Philippines last year.

Buffalo Chase (4m Sippin’ Bourbon – Karamea Star by Bassenthwaite) was making her debut on Friday for trainer Mark Schmetzer.  She is one of 8 starters for her sire among 24 foals from his first crop.

Buffalo Chase is the third and final winner for accomplished Kiwi sprinter Karamea Star who won the Jack Lindsay Classic at Matamata three times for owner-trainer Graeme Rogerson.
