Yarradale Stud sire Scandal Keeper has been rushed with bookings since his first-crop son Zamorar scored a brilliant win at Moonee Valley last Friday night.
Zamorar (3g Scandal Keeper – Chloris by Scenic) had broken through in a Bendigo maiden before trouncing a smart field of three year-olds in Melbourne.
Perth bloodstock agent Grant Burns is arranging bookings to Scandal Keeper and Yarradale is offering discounts for Scenic mares. “There’s no shortage of Scenic mares from his years in WA and at Lindsay Park,” Burns told WAN journalist Ernie Manning this week. “There are already several coming across from the Eastern States.”
Scandal Keeper (USA) is a Danzig sire and he covered a small first book in Queensland before Yarradale owner Ron Sayers bought him to stand in Western Australia.
Zamorar is just one of three foals to race from that first crop and trainer Butch Bourne is currently weighing up his options for the spring carnival. “He pulled up fine from Moonee Valley,” Bourne said. “You can’t hide a good three year-old at this time of the year and there are plenty of opportunities coming up at Caulfield, Moonee Valley and Flemington.”
Scandal Keeper’s first crop of Yarradale bred two year-olds includes Keeper Quiet who won a Lark Hill 950m barrier trial on Monday. She is trained by Daniel Pearce and is a half-sister to promising stayer Defy Me (Heritage). He won four in a row during the Kalgoorlie round culminating in the Goldfields Tatt’s Cup (2300m).
Scandal Keeper is a three-quarter brother to the dam of champion colt Sepoy. He was a 2YO winner at Newmarket and stands for a $4,400 (inc gst) service fee.
