The 2010 Inglis Melbourne Autumn yearling sale saw strong gains across the board during Day 1 at Oaklands Junction on Thursday.  Overall, 172 horses changed hands for turnover of $2.19 million.  The average increased 28% on last year’s figures at a clearance of almost 80%.

A full brother to Darley’s Group 3 winner Desuetude topped the session when knocked down to Edwards – Elkington Racing for $65,000.  The Strategic colt is from the Unbridled’s Song mare Martella who won at Flemington and Moonee Valley.  

Desuetude won the G3 Run To The Rose before transferring to Darley’s northern hemisphere operation.  He was unplaced in four outings during the recent Dubai season.

A Zenno Rob Roy filly and Blevic colt filled out the next two spots on the leader board.  The Zenno Rob Roy – Iresistabeel filly was offered by Burnewang North Pastoral and she was purchased by Shadai Stud owner Kazumi Yoshida for $58,000.

Zenno Rob Roy was unable to stand in New Zealand due to E.I. in 2007 and was re-routed to Independent Stallions for a one-off season.  His first crop three year-olds are going gang-busters in Japan.

The Zenno Rob Roy filly’s dam is by Zabeel and is a winning sister to Calm Smytzer who was G1 placed in the Ansett Australia Stakes at Rosehill.  She was also G2 placed at Moonee Valley and Morphettville.

The Blevic – Lady Biton colt from Kambula Stud made $50,000 to the bid of Heinrich Bloodstock.  His dam is by Rubiton and is a sister to G1 AJC Summer Cup winner Jamberoo.  Lady Biton has had three starters for winners by Commands, Alannan and Royal Academy.

“We are very pleased with the opening session results,” Inglis Director Peter Heagney said.  “Horses that were well prepared and well presented sold extremely well and there was international competition from New Zealand, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and Macau.

“In saying that, there was still some good buying and that will continue into Friday’s second session.”
