Bugsy top buy in Darwin

Former Victorian galloper Bugsy topped the Darwin Magic Millions Sale on Thursday.  The grey son of Dash for Cash was purchased by leading local trainer Chris Pollard for $23,000.

Bugsy (4h Dash For Cash – Myalansky by Umatilla) was initially prepared by Clinton MacDonald and was placed in three Geelong maidens for the Sequenzia family before heading to the Top End.

Turnover reached $200,000 for the 16 lots offered.  Other horses to attract strong interest included Compacts ($18,000), Unlucky ($17,500) and Mandalong Sun ($16,500).

Pollard’s stable looks set to be boosted by the addition of 7 lots from the Sale.  Other buyers included local trainers Jason Manning and David Jupp.

The sale, held annually after the Carbine Club Lunch each year, was subject to the auctioneering of long time Magic Millions director and auctioneer David Chester.

“This is our first sale here and we’re honoured to have formed a close relationship with the Darwin Turf Club,” Magic Millions director David Chester said.  “There was a great crowd on hand and there was spirited bidding throughout the auction.”

“Congratulations and thanks must go to the Darwin Turf Club for their efforts in sourcing horses and organising such a successful sale.”

The Darwin Carnival continues with the Palmerston Sprint meeting on Saturday before attention turns to the Carlton Mid Darwin Cup on Monday.
