Fastnet Rock provided the highlights on Day 1 of the 2012 Inglis Weanling Sale on Wednesday. The Coolmore champion topped the leader-board with the top-priced colt and filly during a buoyant opening session in Sydney.
Turnover reached $3.77 million on 154 lots and the average jumped 55% to $24,353. The clearance rate remained the same as 12 months ago at 80%.
The Fastnet Rock colt from G2 winner Bird Of Fire topped the day’s trade at $270,000. His filly out of stakes winner Sarah Vee sold to Musk Creek Farm for $250,000.
Last year, Musk Creek owner David Kobritz pin-hooked a Fastnet Rock colt that topped the 2012 Melbourne Premier yearling sale at $500,000. He also bought champion colt Pierro as a foal before on-selling him for $230,000 at the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions.
The progeny of Fastnet Rock’s G1 son Wanted were also hot property with his weanlings from Tiger Storm ($100,000) and Evening Charmer ($80,000) popular.
Coolmore Stud finished the opening day of the three day sale as the leading vendor by aggregate, having sold 23 Select Session weanlings for a total of $980,000.
Musk Creek Farm finished the session as the leading individual buyer, purchasing six weanlings for $397,000 by sires such as Fastnet Rock, Northern Meteor, Dane Shadow, Nicconi, Not A Single Doubt and Denman.
New Zealand pin-hookers have had great success buying from the Inglis Weanling Sale and buyers from across the Tasman took home 16 weanlings for a total spend of $663,000 on Wednesday.
