Noel Denning and the team at Burwood Stud are set for a big 2009 season after securing Redoute’s Choice sire Allegro Con Brio for stallion duties.

“We are very excited to be standing a son of Redoute’s,” Denning said.  “He is a very sound individual with a great temperament, who should throw some lovely types.”

A $650,000 purchase from the 2006 Magic Millions Winter Foal Sale, Allegro Con Brio (4h Redoute’s Choice-Closure by Alysheba) was unraced due to bone chips sustained as an early two-year old in his days with Caulfield trainer Peter Moody.

Named after one of Beethoven’s symphonies, Allegro Con Brio owns a rich pedigree.  He is by leading sire Redoute’s Choice, who has sired more than 52 individual stakes winners and no less than nine individual G1 winners.  He is from the US-bred mare Closure whose family is strongly black-type anchored by her grand-dam Special Account (Buckpasser), a full sister to champion US mare Numbered Account.

Only lightly raced herself, Closure has already proven a quality broodmare producing five winners from just six to race including the Listed winning Salute Him (Sea Salute).  She is currently in foal to Darley’s G1 winning shuttler Hard Spun (Danzig).

Denning has set an initial service fee of $1,100 (inc gst) for Allegro Con Brio, setting it relatively low to overcome the lack of time at hand to promote him before the start of the season.

“Like all first season sires he just needs a couple of good mares to get the ball rolling,” Denning said.  “There has been interest in him already and obviously we will be sending several of our mares to him as well.”

Allegro Con Brio will join resident sire Collate, whose first crop yearlings are set to hit the sales ring early next year.

“There are some outstanding types among his first crop,” Denning explained.  “We have nominated a number of them for the Gold Coast Magic Millions next January.

“People that have been buying horses for a long time have been really taken by some of his foals and I am expecting them to hit the ground running as early two-year olds – just like their dad. “

A dual G3 winner of the AJC Frederick Clissold Stakes and NJC Cameron Handicap, Collate (Catbird – Calfree by Canny Lad) was a versatile sprinter, who won six races from just 15 starts and over $300,000 in stakes.

He is the first foal for the city winning mare Calfree and is closely related to G2 MVRC Stutt Stakes winner Burrito (Marscay) and G3 STC Star Kingdom Stakes winner Posadas (Commands).

Collate’s service fee has remained at $5,500 (inc gst) this year.
