Camelot equals Sea the Stars

Camelot’s English Derby victory has been ranked the equal of Sea the Stars by the British Horseracing Authority.

The unbeaten Montjeu colt has been given a 124 rating by BHB handicapper Phil Smith.  “He’s very good, no question,” Smith said.  “We’ve given him a mark of 124 so far and at this stage of his development, we see him as the same horse as Sea the Stars.

“What we want to see him do now is to run against older horses – that is the great barometer.  Sea the Stars went on to beat the older horses and remained unbeaten through the year and at some point, we hope Camelot is going to do the same.  It gives you a much more solid idea where he ranks in world racing.”

Camelot is owned by Coolmore Stud and connections have indicated he will be set for the English St Leger.  He has been installed a $1.30 favourite to complete the Triple Crown against his own age group.

Bookmakers have also priced him as the $3.75 favourite for the Arc de Triomphe ahead stablemate St. Nicholas Abbey ($8) who won the Coronation Cup at Epsom Downs on Saturday.
