The Snitzels are sizzling on the eastern seaboard and they’re fair dinkum flying on the west coast.
Shortly after Sizzling won the G2 Queensland Sires’ Produce Stakes on Saturday, his Perth based youngster Dominating scored a brilliant debut victory in the G’Day WA Handicap (1000m) at Belmont.
Dominating (2g Snitzel – Red Princess by Red Ransom) went out a short-priced favourite on the back to two trial wins and the result was a foregone conclusion at the furlong. “He’s got plenty of potential and will be up there with the top ones before too long,” trainer Neville Parnham predicted. “I will keep him up for a couple more Westspeed bonuses and be back for the summer.”
Parnham purchased Dominating for $60,000 from Evergreen Lodge at the 2011 Perth Magic Millions and races him with long-time clients Bob Pearson and Wayne Walker. His dam Red Princess is a half-sister to Melbourne stakes winner Visual Displays (Scenic).
Snitzel has now sired 13 individual winners of 21 races among his current crop of juveniles. The Arrowfield Stud based stallion is now running second to Pierro’s sire Lonhro on the Australian 2YO premiership with earnings over $2.35 million.
Parnham will also prepare his very promising Snizel three year-old Checkpoint for Perth’s Summer Festival.
Checkpoint (3g Snitzel – Kelcheck by Keltrice) returned from a long spell to win second-up at Belmont on May 19. “He’s a speedy Snitzel and will have another run or two before going out for a spell,” Parnham said. “We will target races like the Colonel Reeves and Summer Scorcher.”
Checkpoint opened his account at Belmont this time last year but was then sidelined with a chipped sesamoid. “It was touch and go but he’s been right since coming back into work,” Parnham explained. “He should be unbeaten this prep but was still a bit underdone first-up.”
Parnham trains Checkpoint for Pearson, Bill Biggs and Colin Loxton. He is the first live foal from Melbourne winner Kelcheck and was a $70,000 buy from Avoca Park at the 2010 Perth Magic Millions.
Snitzel will be double-handed in the G1 T J Smith Stakes at Eagle Farm this Saturday. Sizzling has opened up a $1.80 favourite and the Gerald Ryan trained Dances on Stars is at $14.
Ryan will also welcome Snitzerland back to his Rosehill stables this month. The Snitzel filly was runner-up to Pierro in the Golden Slipper and her spring goal will be the G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington on November 3.
Snitzel will stand for a $33,000 (inc gst) service fee at Arrowfield in 2012.
