Incoming Vinery shuttler Congrats sired his fourth stakes winner when Portside prevailed in the LR Star Shoot Stakes at Woodbine on Saturday.
The latest black-type came just days after Vinery announced the 2010 Champion USA First Season Sire would shuttle to Australia in 2011.
Portside (3f Congrats – Port Isabel by Time to Explode) defeated Nina Fever (Borrego) and Miss Inclined (Pulpit) in the 1200m event for fillies. She was an $87,000 buy for owner Warren Byrne at the Barretts 2YO Sale in March 2010.
Congrats (A P Indy) has now sired 15 stakes horses among his first-crop tally of 42 individual winners. They have won a total of 67 races at a 55% strike-rate.
“His oldest are three year-olds and include the Group 1 winners Turbulent Descent and Wickedly Perfect,” Vinery’s Adam White said. “His progeny continue to win stakes races which is very encouraging.
“He was a horse who won from 1300 to 1700m and really trained on to become a good, tough, sound stakes-winner at four and five.”
Congrats will be the second stakes winning son by A.P Indy to be imported to Australia following Bernardini. The Darley resident finished fourth behind Congrats on the 2010 USA freshman sires’ table.
