Cangon gelding a Blast at Gosford

Cangon Stud owners Jaime and Jennifer Mackay got their former stallion Gunpowder off the mark with Muzzle Blast at Gosford on Thursday.

Muzzle Blast (3g Gunpowder – Lust by Hennessy) scored an on-pace victory in the Sky Racing World Maiden Hcp (1100m).  He is prepared at Newcastle by Darren Smith for the Mackays who bred him from their Canterbury winner Lust.

Cangon Stud has been farmed by five generations of the Mackay family in the Hunter Valley.  Jaime Mackay enjoyed a 25 year career in international polo and was the Australian captain for 10 years.

Muzzle Blast is the only live foal by Gunpowder who was trained by Lee Freedman for front-running wins at Moe, Sale and Moonee Valley in 2005.

Gunpowder (Danehill) is a half-brother to the stakes winners Russian Caravan (Dehere) and Custard (Lonhro).  He only served a handful of mares in three seasons at stud.

Cangon Stud is currently home to Nothin’ Leica Dane (Danehill), Recapitalize (Royal Academy), Sea Battle (Quest For Fame) and Snapy Halo (Southern Halo).
