Touchstone Farm resident Vital Equine sired his first Australian bred winner at Bunbury on Wednesday courtesy of grey filly Unpretentious Lass.
The Damian Winn trainee wasn’t sighted on debut at Ascot last month, however, she was always prominent second-up to win the SW Autumn Racing Carnival Maiden (1016m) by more than two lengths.
Unpretentious Lass (2f Vital Equine – Wongkaew by McFlirt) races for a syndicate that includes Touchstone Farm owner Glenn Martin. She failed to reach a $25,000 reserve at the 2011 Perth Magic Millions.
Her dam Wongkaew won in Perth and is a half-sister to South African stakes winner Cutey Lee (Is it True). Second dam Our Cutey (Carry a Smile) was a Listed winner of the WA Gimcrack Stakes.
Vital Equine (Ire) completed a juvenile hat-trick in the G2 Champagne Stakes at York in September 2006 and followed up with a third in the G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere won by Holy Roman Emperor.
An Irish bred son of Danetime, he returned at three to finish second to Cockney Rebel in the G1 English 2000 Guineas.
Vital Equine has been based in Western Australia since serving a sole season at Bearstone Stud in 2008. He sired six juvenile winners from his only English crop in Europe last year.
