Cardiac arrest claims Medaaly

Former Australian shuttler Medaaly has died in Ireland aged 17.  The grey son of Highest Honor suffered a cardiac arrest after covering a mare at Badger Hill Stud in County Galway.

The 1996 G1 Racing Post Trophy winner was one of the first stallions Sheikh Mohammed shuttled to Australia.  He was based at Inverness Stud in NSW for a one-off season a decade ago.

Medaaly (Highest Honor – Dance Of Leaves by Sadler´s Wells) retired to Haras du Logis in 1999 and his best French-bred flat performers included the stakes winners Daly Daly, Amonita, Mardouk, Rento and Tocopilla.

In 2004 he was exported to stand in South Africa and in 2008, as his progeny began to excel over jumps, he was returned to Europe to stand in Ireland as a National Hunt stallion.

Medaaly was bred by Sheikh Mohammed and his half-brother Charnwood Forest also shuttled to Australia.  They are from a daughter of G1 Matron Stakes winner Fall Aspen.

Fall Aspen also foaled the one-time Australian shuttlers Hamas and Timber Country along with Champion South African sire Fort Wood and the dam of Dubai Millennium.
