Sky’s the limit for Domesday

Darley sire Domesday is on the cusp of a successful autumn carnival after Domesky scored a convincing victory in the G2 Alister Clark Stakes at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

Trainer Mick Kent will set Domesky for the G1 Australian Derby at Randwick on April 9.  “He’s always been a real stayer,” Kent said.  “His whole preparation has been aimed towards the Derby.”

Domesky (3g Domesday – Miss Aryan by Masterclass) is a homebred for Errol Campbell and his son Peter.  His dam is a half-sister to G1 STC George Ryder Stakes winner Wong.

Domesday filly Divorces is also heading for a G1 in the Australian Oaks at Randwick on April 16.  She ran a blinder first-up when third to Do Ra Mi and Brazilian Pulse in the G2 Kewney Stakes at Flemington.

Divorces (3f Domesday – Family Breakup by Octagonal) is a Darley homebred and she was beaten a nose by More Strawberries in the G2 Furious Stakes at Randwick in September before grabbing a G3 in the Thousand Guineas Prelude at Caulfield a fortnight later.

They have gone some way making up for the mystifying loss of form of Domesday’s breakthrough galloper Pressday.  The Rosehill based colt completed a hat-trick of stakes wins at the 2010 Brisbane winter carnival culminating with a G1 victory in the T J Smith.

He signed off a short spring preparation with a G2 victory in the Sandown Guineas and trainer Chris Waller would have approached this year in a confident frame of mind.

Unfortunately, losses in the Royal Sovereign and Hobartville Stakes followed by an upside-down failure in the Randwick Guineas has put his autumn carnival plans in jeopardy.

Domesday is a son of Red Ransom and was a G2 winner of the STC Silver Slipper Stakes.  He stands at Darley’s Northwood Park at Seymour for an $11,000 (inc gst) fee.

Domesday has sired 15 individual winners to date but the highlight of his statistics is the fact 40% of those winners have earned black-type.
