Arrowfield champion Flying Spur raised his profile as a sire of sires when Casino Card powered home for a debut victory at the Gold Coast on New Year’s Eve.
The Matthew Dunn trained filly opened the winning account of Patinack Farm resident Casino Prince.
Casino Card (2f Casino Prince – Absolute Lure by Lure) came from well back to win the Gary Newham Hcp clocking a class-record 65.09s for 1100m on a Dead 4 surface.
Casino Prince became the third son of Flying Spur to move off the mark during December. Volitant (Oxford Park) sired his first winner with Fast Money at Canberra on December 11 and Shaft (Darley) broke through with Deakes at Wingatui on Boxing Day.
Casino Card was a $1,500 cheapie at the 2011 Magic Millions National yearling sale. Her dam Absolute Lure had also changed hands the previous year when making $15,000 to the bid of Serene Lodge owner Les Tinkler.
Absolute Lure won races at Canterbury and Newcastle (2) and she is a half-sister to Fire In The Night (Danewin) who was a G3 winner of the 2007 Coongy Hcp at Caulfield. She has a yearling filly by Casino Prince and a filly foal by Husson.
Casino Prince was a G1 winner of the Chipping Norton Stakes in Sydney and G2 Alister Clark Stakes in Melbourne. He stands for a $27,500 (inc gst) fee at Patinack Farm.
Patinack principal Nathan Tinkler topped the 2011 Inglis Easter yearling sale when he paid $1,025,000 for the Casino Prince half-brother to Black Caviar. He has been named Cosmopol.
Glenlogan Park stallion Jet Spur leads the Flying Spur branch of the Danehill sireline and next cab off the rank will be Black Caviar’s close relation Magnus.
Magnus stands at Eliza Park in association with Yallambee Stud and he has already been represented by the Flemington stakes placegetters Imprimis and Magnus Reign. His well-bred colt The Welshman can start the New Year on a winning note at Launceston on Wednesday.
