New Zealand based Zed sired his first Australian winner when Choir Girl was successful in the Stuart James Memorial Maiden (1400m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Choir Girl (3f Zed – Stella Suprema by Zeditave) is trained by Toby Edmonds for owner-breeder Peter Bellingham and connections are hoping she will develop into a Queensland Oaks filly at the 2012 winter carnival.

“I won last year’s New Zealand Oaks with Keep The Peace and would love another with Choir Girl,” Bellingham said.  “She will be suited over more ground than 1400m later in the season.”

Bellingham part-owned Keep The Peace with former champion hoop Mick Dittman and the duo also race Jasminka who was a Listed winner of the Bright Shadow Stakes at Doomben in April.

Choir Girl is a younger half-sister to Jasminka (Sakura Seeking).  They are from the immediate family of 2002 Queensland Oaks winner Mon Mekki

Zed is by Zabeel and his dam Emerald Dream is a sister in blood to leading Australian sires Danewin and Commands.  He won on debut at Hastings but his career was cut short by injury after just four starts.

Zed stands at Little Avondale Stud in Masterton for a $1,000 service fee.  His first winner arrived on December 10 when the Little Avondale bred gelding Kina Win scored at Ascot Park in Invercargill.

There are three yearlings by Zed catalogued for the Select and Festival sessions of the NZB Karaka Sale in February.
