Catapulted cartwheels to sizzling Standish victory

Outstanding sprinter Catapulted will head to the Gold Coast for the $400,000 Magic Millions Cup after a brilliant victory in the G3 Standish Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on Monday.

Catapulted (6g Catbird – Siren Miss by Umatilla) was regarded the best horse in the race by the handicapper and he lived up to that rating with a stunning three length runaway in a sizzling 67.66s.

Trainer Mark Kavanagh said Catapulted would now head to the Gold Coast to play his part in the Gold Coast’s $4.30 million race meeting.  “I was surprised he did that with 59kg but he’s a good horse when right,” Kavanagh said.  “He got them off the bridle a long way out and that always helps in straight races.”

Catapulted will fly to the Gold Coast on Thursday with stablemate Alezan Thunder who is one of the favourites for the BMW Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

A $90,000 purchase for Kavanagh from the 2007 Adelaide Magic Millions, Catapulted was bred and sold by Bob and Helen Dinham along with Mill Park.

He is by Danehill’s Golden Slipper winning son Catbird from a sister to Umatune who is the stakes winning dam of Perth black-type trio Jestatune, Saxon Palace and Ihtsatune.
