Cavaloce flags return trip to Flemington

Cavaloce has claimed her second feature sprint this season with a brilliant burst of acceleration in the LR City Of Marion Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville.

The Testa Rossa mare had won the LR Durbridge Stakes in October and Saturday’s success followed a midfield finish at Flemington during cup week.  “She will head back to Melbourne for her next start,” trainer Will Clarken said after the last-to-first victory in Adelaide.  “Then we can think about getting her ready for our carnival.

“We will target the (G3) Standish Handicap at Flemington on New Year’s Day.  It’s three weeks away and that should work out perfectly.”

Cavaloce was a $56,000 buy as a foal for Ducatoon Park owner Peter Toole at the 2011 Inglis Great Southern Sale.  He sold her to NSW based Bell View Park as a broodmare prospect earlier this year and they decided to keep her racing for another season.

Her dam Refit (Encosta de Lago) is a half-sister to G1 Oakleigh Plate winner Reactive and she has 2yo filly by Foxwedge and a colt on the ground by Smart Missile.

Vinery sire Testa Rossa has a line-up of 9 yearlings for the Gold Coast Magic Millions in January.  He won the Magic Millions 2YO Classic in 1999 and sired Unencumbered to win $2 million feature in 2014.

The first two to parade are from Baramul Stud.  The colt out of Lake Lynette (Lot 159) is related to Caulfield stakes winner Chivalry (Street Cry) who was sold as a stallion prospect to Yu Long Investments at Oaklands on Friday.

The colt from Pure Beauty (Lot 335) is another highlight.  He’s a brother to Testa Rossa’s ill-fated 2015 Magic Millions Plate winner Real Time.
