Charmed result for Casino Prince

Casino Prince continued his amazing strike-rate in feature races when Charmed Princess won the Grafton Guineas (1600m) on Wednesday.

The Tony Newing-trained 3yo filly had won the Grafton Guineas Prelude 10 days ago and was confidently supported into a $2.70 second favourite behind even-money public-elect Commander.

“This has been the long-range plan,” Newing said.  “I’ve always liked this filly and I think there’s a good race in her going forward.

“It was a good win today because they got away with murder up front.  Full credit to Matt (McGuren).  He put Commander in a pocket and got first run on him in the straight.”

Charmed Princess was a $32,000 buy for SJ Racing at the 2017 Magic Millions Yearling Sale from Fig Tree Thoroughbreds.  Her dam Purple Royale (Reset) is an unraced half-sister to Hong Kong Horse of the Year Able Friend.

Newing is no stranger to Casino Prince having prepared his tough sprinter Timeless Prince to 12 wins and over $550,000 in prizemoney.  The highlights included a Sunshine Coast Cup LR, Winter Dash at Randwick, Tamworth Cup and Scone Country Cup.

Casino Prince has been prolific winner-getter since covering his first book at Vinery in 2013.  His most recent winners include Baccarat Baby (Sunshine Coast Guineas Gr.3), The Candy Man (Queensland Premier’s Cup Gr.3) and Singapore-based filly What’s New (Silver Bowl LR & Stewards’ Cup LR).

What’s New can clean-sweep the local classics in the Singapore Derby later this month and Casino Prince’s Singapore Horse of the Year Lim’s Cruiser is Group 1-bound to the July Cup at Newmarket this Saturday, July 13.

Casino Prince (Flying Spur) is Value with a capital V for a $6,600 (inc gst) service fee at Vinery.

Hoofnote:  Just minutes after the Grafton Guineas, Casino Prince sired Princess Cavallo to her first city win at Doomben.  “A deserved victory for this mare who has been racing with no luck at all,” trainer Paul Butterworth said.  “And a massive thanks for a sensational ride to Taylor Marshall.”
