Chatswood Stud has announced G1 Blue Diamond Stakes winner Reward For Effort will commence his stud career at the Seymour nursery in 2011. The son of Exceed And Excel arrived at Chatswood on Thursday.
The Blue Diamond is an amazing stallion producing race with Australian champion Redoute’s Choice and Black Caviar’s sire Bel Esprit on its honour-roll.
“We are delighted to have the opportunity to stand Reward For Effort,” Chatswood Stud’s Greg Willis said on Friday. “And we appreciate the faith placed in Chatswood by Dean Watt and Dynamic Syndications.”
Reward For Effort (4h Exceed And Excel-Miss Prospect by Rory’s Jester) was retired after aggravating a fetlock injury during the Oakleigh Plate. The injury first occurred when he was as a spring three-year-old and was a constant concern for trainer Peter Moody.
Besides the Blue Diamond, Reward For Effort won the G3 Concorde Stakes at Rosehill and the Listed John Monash Stakes and Listed Blue Diamond Preview at Caulfield. He started just 10 times earning more than $930,000 in prizemoney.
Reward For Effort was sold by Basinghall Farm to Dynamic Syndications at the 2008 Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale for $190,000.
Darley shuttler Exceed And Excel sired him from Randwick and Moonee Valley stakes winner Miss Prospect. He is a half-brother to 7 winners including iron-horse Consular (Royal Academy) who won 16 races to Listed level in Melbourne and Brisbane.
“The people at Darley tell me Exceed And Excel has some outstanding young horses coming through from his better books of mares,” Willis explained. “Helmet appeals as a great chance in the upcoming G1 AJC Sires Produce Stakes next week.”
Reward for Effort will stand at a service fee of $11,000 (inc gst). He is being syndicated and shareholders will receive two nominations per season for the life of the horse. A large proportion of his current owners are retaining their shares in the stallion and the remaining shares are expected to fill quickly.
Chatswood Stud is also standing by for updates regarding its Group 1 shuttler Amadeus Wolf. His first starter Jimmy The Lollipop is engaged in the Brocklesby Stakes at Doncaster on Saturday.
Jimmy The Lollipop (2c Amadeus Wolf — Royal Consort by Green Desert) was bred by Corrin Stud in Ireland and is owned by Five Arrows Racing.
The colt is trained by Kevin Ryan and cost 27,000 euros at the Tattersalls yearling sale last September. His dam is an unraced half-sister to Sheikh Mohammed’s G2 Gimcrack winner Carrowkeel.
