Chichicastenango filly tops trade at Arqana sale

Wednesday’s first session of Part 2 at the Arqana October yearling sale was topped by a Chichicastenango filly for 80,000 euros.  In contrast to the select sessions of Part 1, when 10 lots sold for six figures, the 80,000 euros filly headed a low-key day’s trade.

Trainer John Hammond bought the Chichicastenango filly who is a sister to Prix de Fontainebleau winner Chichi Creasy.  Chichicastenango (Smadoun) sired G1 sprinter Vision d’Etat before his sale to Shadai Farm in Japan in 2008.

French trainer Henri-Alex Pantall went to 75,000 euros for a Kahyasi colt from Haras de Colleville.  He hails from the family of G1 hurdlers Lina Drop and Snow Drop.

British and Irish buyers were active throughout the day, none more so than Highflyer Bloodstock who came away with 12 yearlings worth 313,000 euros.  They were topped by a son of King’s Theatre for 55,000 euros on behalf of Ffos Las owner Dai Walters.  The colt is a half-brother to German Listed winner Quadrupa.

All told, 134 yearlings were sold during the session for a total of 2.41 million euros average of 17,785 euros.  Thursday’s session will conclude Part 2 of the sale.
