Hot young sire War Front has topped the two-day Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society yearling sale at Woodbine.  

The Canadian-bred War Front colt made $140,000 to the bid of William and Anne Scott on Tuesday.  He is out of the Seattle Slew mare Terrigal and is a half brother to the stakes-placegetter Niagara Thunder.

Agent Richard Hogan sold the colt for breeder Punch Kent of Hope Stock Farm in Ontario.  “How can you not be pleased,” Kent said.  “I could have sold him at Saratoga but instead he is staying here in Canada to race.”

War Front (Danzig) stands at Claiborne Farm and his first-crop was headed by Group winners Soldat and The Factor.  His second includes State Of Play who was a G2 winner of the With Anticipation Stakes at Saratoga on September 1.

Hogan also paid $100,000 for a Bold Executive colt.  “I think we saw a real upswing in our local market for the first time in a while,” Hogan said.  “There was plenty of action for the good horses and a lot of our local owners and trainers recognized there was a lot of good ones.”

A colt by Philanthropist and a filly by Kitten’s Joy shared second spot on the leader-board at $120,000.

The sale vibe was certainly heightened by the presence of Frank Stronach who was buying at his first local sale in almost 20 years.  Stronach’s Adena Springs purchased six yearlings for $326,000.

The CTHS Sale realized an 11% jump in average price to $32,456.
