Classic Blitz registered the first win for her sire Natural Blitz in the Westspeed 2YO Plate at Ascot on Saturday. The Cromartry Park resident was also represented by third home Ningaloo Blitz.
Classic Blitz (2f Natural Blitz – Dance To Heaven by Key Business) sat outside the favourite Stacks On (Saxon) and then edged her out by a long neck. She is raced by owner-trainer Mick Santich who bought her for just $2,000 as a foal from Rangeview Stud at a Perth Magic Millions Sale in July 2009.
The winner is eligible for the $250,000 Perth Magic Millions 2yo Classic at Ascot on February 12. Santich knows the feeling having won the $500,000 Burswood Juvenile with Classico Belle in 1988.
Natural Blitz (Dehere) was trained by Doug Harrison to win five Group 2 events in three states but couldn’t quite nail one at the elite level. He is now based at Cromartry Park alongside Redoutable (Redoute’s Choice) and Lords A Leaping (Zabeel).
Classic Blitz is from tough mare Dance To Heaven. She won races at Kalgoorlie (8) and one apiece at Ascot and Belmont before retiring to stud. Her 3yo is Bunbury placegetter Military Madness (Bearcat) and her latest is a Viscount colt foaled in August.
