Classic Success for Wattle Brae Stud

Easy Rocking has given wonderful service to Wattle Brae Stud since retiring from a Group 1 winning career a decade ago.

He regularly covered books of a 100 plus at the Queensland based stud until E.I. struck in 2007.  Wattle Brae owners Garry and Phoebe Turkington were hit harder than most and, as a result, Easy Rocking has only had a handful of two year-old starters this season.

Easy Successful (2c Easy Rocking – Brilliant Jewel by Danzero) is the standout and he is destined for a bright future after winning the Bruce McLachlan Classic (1200m) at Sunshine Coast on Saturday.

The Bryan Guy trained youngster was in control from the outset after crossing the field from an outside barrier.  He was never in danger and scored by three-quarters of a length from Internal Revenue (Exceed And Excel) and Denwood (Greenwood Lake).

Guy bought Easy Successful for Hong Kong based owner Stanley Chan at the 2010 Magic Millions yearling sale.  He was part of the Wattle Brae consignment and cost $32,000.

The winner’s dam Brilliant Jewel won six sprints in Melbourne and was also stakes placed in Adelaide.  She has a yearling filly by Easy Rocking and a filly foal by Hussonet.

Easy Rocking has sired 204 individual winners of 561 races at a 65% strike-rate.

Meanwhile, Wattle Brae Stud is slowly recovering from E.I. which the Turkingtons claim cost their business more than $3 million.

Gold Coast law firm Attwood Marshall is utilizing Wattle Brae as a test case against the Federal Government over the Equine Influenza outbreak.  The stud is seeking compensation for negligence, interest on damages and court costs.

Four years on, the legal action is still being monitored by all sections of the Australian racing and breeding industries.  Attwood Marshall expects to lodge more than 600 claims if the test case is successful.
