Vinery stallion Stormello was put down this week due to complications from colic. His first crop are Kentucky bred two year-olds are expected to begin racing in the coming weeks.
The Group 1 winning son of Stormy Atlantic stallion stood at Tom Simon’s Vinery near Lexington. “He was gorgeous horse,” trainer Bill Currin said. “His enormous heart for racing thrilled us and we’re looking forward to seeing his first runners on the racetrack.”
Stormello was a 2yo winner of the G1 Hollywood Futurity and G2 Norfolk Breeders’ Cup in 2006 and he returned as a 3yo to be beaten a nose in the G2 Fountain of Youth Stakes.
After an unplaced run in the G1 Kentucky Derby won by Street Sense, he finished third in the G2 Woody Stephens Stakes prior to his retirement to Vinery.
