Congrats filly lines up for Eclipse Award

Turbulent Descent displayed true ability with a runaway victory in the G1 Test Stakes (1400m) at Saratoga on Saturday.  She collared front-runner Roman Treasure in the straight and was untroubled to win by next to four lengths.

Turbulent Descent (3f Congrats – Roger’s Sue by Forestry) is a daughter of incoming Vinery shuttler Congrats and the Saratoga Test was her third at Group 1 level following the Hollywood Starlet and Santa Anita Oaks.

The Southern California-based filly was coming off a well-beaten second to It’s Tricky in the G1 Acorn Stakes (1600m) at Belmont Park in June.

Trainer Mike Puype said Turbulent Descent could take on any filly over 1400m.  “That was huge,” Puype said.  “It puts her right to the top of the division and she’s in line to win an Eclipse Award now.”

Turbulent Descent extended her career earnings to $828,350.  She was a $160,000 buy at the Ocala Breeders 2YO Sale in April 2010.

“She broke really nice,” jockey David Flores said after guiding the filly home under a hands-and-heels ride.  “I just waited because there was nobody to worry about.  At the half-mile I just pointed out and she started making a run.”

Congrats (A P Indy) is about to shuttle to Vinery Australia for the first time in 2011.
