Coolmore sires High Chaparral and Montjeu took centre stage in Europe and Australasia on Saturday.  Both horses are Group 1 winning sons of Sadler’s Wells and shuttle to Windsor Park in New Zealand.

High Chaparral sired his second G1 winner this season when So You Think scored a ground-breaking win in the Cox Plate and Montjeu chimed in with his colt St Nicholas Abbey who claimed a G1 in the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster.

So You Think (3c High Chaparral – Triassic by Tights) had always been held in high regard by trainer Bart Cummings and was thrown in at the deep end of the Cox Plate with just four starts under his belt.  That included G3 win in the Gloaming Stakes at Rosehill in September but he belied the lack of experience to score an all-the-way victory at Moonee Valley.

Bred by Windsor Park’s marketing manager Mike Moran, together with Piper Farm, So You Think was a $110,000 yearling at the 2008 NZ Bloodstock Karaka Sale.  He is the seventh winning foal from as many to race for the G2 winning Tights mare Triassic.

High Chaparral stands at $17,500 (+ gst) fee at Windsor Park Stud in Cambridge where the book full sign had been posted since June.

So You Think joined Monaco Consul as an elite level winner by High Chaparral.

Monaco Consul (3g High Chaparral – Argante by Star Way) was also racing for the fifth time when he won the G1 AJC Spring Champion Stakes earlier this month.  He was a $100,000 buy from the Windsor Park draft at the 2008 NZ Bloodstock Karaka Sale.  His dam is an unraced half-sister to G1 winner and successful sire Military Plume.  Trainer Mike Moroney has him peaking again for the G1 VRC Victoria Derby this Saturday.

Monjeu shuttled to Windsor Park for four years until 2004 and left the AJC Australian Derby winners Nom Du Jeu and Roman Emperor.

Nom Du Jeu was retired after failing in the Cox Plate but Roman Emperor is one of the favourites for the Melbourne Cup next Tuesday after a runner-up finish to stablemate Viewed in the Caulfield Cup.

Montjeu has sired the English Derby winners Motivator and Authorized and his latest star St Nicholas Abbey is the 5-2 pre-post favourite for the 2010 Epsom classic.

St Nicholas Abbey (2c Montjeu – Leaping Water by Sure Blade) displayed a brilliant turn of foot to win the G1 Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster on Saturday.  The Aidan O’Brien-trained colt became Montjeu’s third Racing Post Trophy winner.  His predecessors were Motivator and Authorized and they both went on to capture the Derby in the following season.

St Nicholas Abbey is from an unraced half-sister to Aristotle who also won a Racing Post Trophy for Ballydoyle.  He stood in Queensland and Victoria but didn’t fire at stud in either hemisphere.

St Nicholas Abbey, who was a 200,000gns buy at the 2008 Tattersalls October yearling sale, is unbeaten in three starts this year including the G2 Beresford Stakes.  Champion colt Sea The Stars launched his black-type career in the 2008 Beresford.

High Chaparral completed a big weekend for Coolmore when his filly High Heeled won the G3 St Simon Stakes at Newbury on Saturday.  The Barry Hills trained filly had won the Listed Lyric Stakes at York in July.

High Heeled (3f High Chaparral – Uncharted Haven by Turtle Island) was also placed behind champion filly Sariska in the English Oaks.
