Coolmore to stand High Chaparral in Hunter Valley

Coolmore Stud’s Hunter Valley base is the new southern hemisphere home for High Chaparral.  The son of Sadler’s Wells is set to shuttle to Australia for the first time in 2010 and his arrival is sure to be met with an avalanche of bookings by Australasian breeders.

High Chaparral originally spent his southern springs at Windsor Park Stud in NZ where he sired the G1 winners Monaco Consul, So You Think and Shoot Out.

It’s been a remarkable effort to sire three individual Group 1 winning three year olds from his first southern crop but, that said, High Chaparral was a remarkable performer during the course of his own racing career.

High Chaparral was a winner of the G1 Racing Post Trophy at two, the G1 English Derby and the G1 Breeders Cup Turf twice so it’s no surprise he has developed into a quite remarkable stallion.

Indeed, the fact he is the leading sire of three year olds in Australia – New Zealand by prizemoney this season is testament to his ability as a stallion, particularly when you consider that his closest pursuer is none other than Fastnet Rock, Coolmore’s heir apparent to Danehill.

“What High Chaparral has achieved in such a short space of time in the Southern Hemisphere is incredible,” Coolmore Australia General Manager Michael Kirwan claimed.  “Such success for a young stallion almost defies belief, particularly when you consider the calibre of races being won by his progeny, the G1 Cox Plate, the G1 VRC Derby and the G1 Randwick Guineas.  He is a sensational stallion and I am delighted to offer him to Australasian breeders for next season.”

“Nelson and Roddy Schick and their team at Windsor Park Stud did a fantastic job with High Chaparral during his time in New Zealand and that laid a foundation for him to feature amongst the leading sires in Australasia for years to come.”
