Anthony Cummings trained a stakes winning double at Randwick on Saturday with the Fastnet Rock gallopers Lovemelikearock and Smart Missile.
Lovemelikearock (4m Fastnet Rock – Love All by Mt. Livermore) took out the Listed Angst Quality at her second run back after a year on the sidelines. Her only other black-type victory had been in the Group 3 Spring Stakes at Newcastle in September 2009.
She was selected out of the Coolmore Stud draft by Cummings for $110,000 at the 2008 Inglis Easter 11 yearling sale.
Lovemelikearock’s dam Love All is an North American bred daughter of champion sire Mt. Livermore. Second dam Doubles Match (Danzig) is a winning three-quarter-sister to the dam of Arazi and Noverre.
Love All is also the dam of Fusaichi Pegasus gelding Ichiban whose Hong Kong wins include the Swaine Cup at Sha Tin.
Cummings was off the mark earlier on Epsom Day when Gooree Stud homebred Smart Missile won the Listed Breeders’ Plate.
Smart Missile (2c Fastnet Rock – Comical Smile by Comic Strip) started a $2.10 favourite after an impressive trial win on the Kensington course in September He was slowly away on raceday but still managed to win by over a length from Isle Be Ready and Wild And Proud.
Cummings had declared Smart Missile possibly the best two-year-old he had trained even before his debut. “I will still stand by that statement,” Cummings said as Corey Brown brought the colt back to scale. “He’s a pretty special horse and he hasn’t furnished yet. I reckon the other side of Christmas he’ll just be sensational.”
The Fastnet Rock colt would now head to the paddock for a spell and return in the New Year to be aimed at the G1 Golden Slipper.
Smart Missile is a younger half-brother to the Sydney winners Emotional Outburst (Johannesburg) and Kiss From a Rose (Encosta de Lago). Their dam Comical Smile is an unraced half-sister to the stakes winners Northern Meteor (Encosta de Lago), Queen Of The Hill (Danehill) and Rabbuka (Giant’s Causeway).
Smart Missile is the first winner from Fastnet Rock’s third crop. The Coolmore resident has now been represented by 95 winners at a 54% strike rate.
