Glenrae Stud, in a joint initiative with Eliza Park, will stand Danehill’s well bred stallion Danbird this spring.  He will stand this season at a fee of $2,750.

Based at Eliza Park since a career that included victories in the Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes at two and dual stakes victories at four, Danbird makes the move to the leading South Australian nursery on the back of promising signs from progeny.

“Eliza Park welcomes the opportunity to develop close ties with interstate farms,” Eliza Park CEO Cameron Croucher points out.  “The Young’s Glenrae is one of the most enduring family-owned studs in Australia and has a rich history of producing talented racehorses.

“The decision to relocate Danbird only came after lengthy consideration, but the verdict was much easier to arrive at when dealing with a farm of Glenrae’s reputation.”

John Young – who runs Glenrae with his brother Colin – said they were over the moon to be getting a stallion of Danbird’s calibre.  “First off, he is a brother to Golden Slipper winner Catbird, whose South Australian stakes winners include Catapulted, Burgeis and Harb and, secondly, Danbird’s own stock are winning all around the globe.

“On the home front, Royal Dalton was stakes placed at Flemington at two and Western Raider won a $100,000 race as a juvenile too.

“Captain Clayton, Nesting and Heartbreak Lass are all city winners and Paul Beshara’s Shogun Warrior was a very convincing winner at Morphettville last month.

“Danbird is also going very well overseas after shuttling to Great Britain for a number of seasons with his two year old filly Serena’s Pride running fourth in the G2 Queen Mary Stakes recently.  

“All up Danbird has winners in five countries and it’s important to remember that his oldest progeny are only three year olds,” Young added.  “What’s more, he served his largest book of mares in 2008 – 126 with 95% fertility – so Danbird’s got a terrific crop of yearlings coming through the system.  We’re very excited to be standing him.”
