Danetime’s half-brother He’s A Decoy will stand at Westbury Park in WA this year.  Well-known breeder James Miorada already stands Fath (USA) and Startac (USA) at the Pinjarra property and the newcomer looks an exciting addition to Westspeed ranks.

He’s A Decoy was an Irish 2yo stakes winner in 2006 and he performed extra-well in several other European features that year.

Danetime, an Irish bred son of Danehill, has been consistently ranked among the leading sires in Europe and Australia since his premature death from a ruptured artery at Alwyn Park in September 2005.

In an all to brief stud career, Danetime has sired 26 stakes winners including the G1 winners Myboycharlie and Bushranger (Prix Morny) and Megatic (WATC Kingston Town Classic).

Myboycharlie, who stands his first season at Vinery in NSW this year, won the Prix Morny in 2007 and Bushranger gave their sire back-to-back victories in France’s equivalent of the Golden Slipper last August.

Bushranger and He’s A Decoy were both trained by David Wachman, the son-in-law of Coolmore’s John Magnier.

He’s A Decoy (In The Wings – Allegheny River by Lear Fan) won on debut in May 2006 at Leopardstown and he doubled up the following month in the Listed Rochestown Stakes (1400m) at Cork.  He won by two lengths under Mick Kinane and that earned him a start in the G2 Superlative Stakes at Newmarket.

He’s A Decoy was held up early until Kinane kicked him to what looked like a winning lead at the furlong.  But he drifted towards the grandstand rail in the final stages and that allowed 33/1 long-shot Halicarnassus (Cape Cross) to head him at the finish.

Kept in work, he was far from disgraced next time out in the G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Longchamp when he was beaten three lengths by Holy Roman Emperor.  He came from last to finish fourth to the Coolmore colt.  Vital Equine was third home.

Returning at three, He’s A Decoy raced very keenly when a fading fourth in the G3 Craven Stakes (1600m) at Newmarket and that pipe-opener set him up for an improved effort back home in the G1 Irish 2000 Guineas (1600m) at the Curragh.

Patiently ridden by Kinane, the Danetime colt arrived from midfield to fill third place behind Cockney Rebel and Creachadoir in a vintage edition of the classic.

Cockney Rebel (Val Royal) won both the English and Irish Guineas that year while runner-up Creachadoir (King’s Best) would go on and win his G1 in the 2008 Lockinge Stakes at Newbury.

Fourth home was none other than Duke Of Marmalade (Danehill), a Coolmore hero the following year when he won five G1 events in England, Ireland and France.

Owner Joseph Joyce bought He’s A Decoy from the 2005 Goffs Yearling Sale for 40,000 euros and he had already banked three times that purchase price after the Irish Guineas.

Joyce received another windfall later that year when Hong Kong interests came calling with a huge offer for the colt.  Sadly, He’s A Decoy broke down shortly after arriving in the Far East but there is a silver lining for Westspeed broodmare owners.

Westbury Park manager Phil Ibbotson inspected the five year-old in New Zealand earlier this week and he reports the horse will let down into a superb individual.

Danetime is a burgeoning influence in WA through his young sire sons So Secret (Rangeview Stud) and Vital Equine (Touchstone Farm).

Danetime and He’s A Decoy are out of Allegheny River who won a Curragh maiden at three.  She has foaled seven winners and, apart from the above duo, they include Leopardstown G3 placegetter Dane River (Danehill) and Hong Kong Journalists Cup winner Bear Supremo (Desert King).

He’s A Decoy is a son of In The Wings (Sadler’s Wells), a Godolphin galloper with Group 1 wins to his credit in the Breeders Cup Turf and Grand Prix de Saint Cloud.  He is best known out here through his sire son Singspiel, a G1 winner in England, UAE, Japan and Canada whose locally bred progeny includes Group 1 winning mare Rewaaya.
