Victor’s Cry increased Street Cry’s Group 1 tally to 11 after he scored a head victory in the Shoemaker Mile at Hollywood Park on Monday’s Memorial Day holiday in the United States.

Street Cry has been enjoying a sensational season, not only through the deeds of the undefeated glamour mare Zenyatta in the USA, but with his southern hemisphere-bred G1 winning four-year-olds Whobegotyou and Shocking.

The Mark Kavanagh-trained Whobegotyou rattled home from the tail of the field to take second place in the G1 Doomben 10,000 on Saturday and is now favourite for the G1 Stradbroke Handicap in two weeks time.

Victor’s Cry (5h Street Cry – Short Time by Clever Trick) has now won 5 times in 17 starts for earnings of $350,630.  He made quite an immediate impact as a three year-old winning his maiden at Del Mar in a track record 1.15.80s for 1300m.

Bred by Legacy Farm in Virginia, Victor’s Cry was a $150,000 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July yearling.  “I thought it might set up well for his style of running,” trainer Eoin Harty said.  “But it is a G1 and they’re hard to win.”

Harty indicated that Victor’s Cry could be pointed to the G2 American Hcp on July 4.

Street Cry’s champion mare Zenyatta will be back at Hollywood Park on June 13 in an attempt to complete a hat-trick of G1 Vanity Handicaps.  The six year-old mare warmed up for the task when drilling 1200m in 1.14.80 on Monday morning.  She was last seen scoring a four length victory in the G1 Apple Blossom Stakes.  It stretched her unbeaten run to 16 in a row.

Harty knows what it’s like to be beaten by Zenyatta.  He saddled up Colonel John who finished fifth to the mare in the 2009 Breeders’ Cup Classic at Santa Anita.

“She beat the heck out of us,” Harty said at Santa Anita last November.  “It was probably the greatest performance I’ve ever seen.  I never saw Secretariat run but I’ve never seen anything like her.”

Street Cry will stand at Darley’s Kelvinside Stud in NSW for the forthcoming breeding season at a fee of $137,500 (inc gst).

He will be joined at Kelvinside by his G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and G1 Kentucky Derby winning son Street Sense, whose first Australian weanlings were in great demand at the Gold Coast last week, who will stand at a fee of $38,500 (inc gst).
