Darley has retired its Group 1 winner Girolamo to stand at Sequel Stallions in New York.
Girolamo (A P Indy – Get Lucky by Mr. Prospector) is a brother to Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver. He won the G1 Vosburgh Stakes and G2 Jerome Handicap at Belmont Park and is the only son of A P Indy to have won at the elite level over 1200 metres.
He bowed out of racing in November 2010 with a third place finish in the G1 Cigar Mile Handicap at Aqueduct.
“Girolamo is a horse with tremendous potential on all fronts,’ Darley spokesman Charlie Boden said. “He was a dominant racehorse with speed and class. And after looking at him, you will understand why we’re thrilled about his future.
Darley’s decision follows that of WinStar and Vinery to stand stallions in New York. The Kentucky heavyweights are taking advantage of the higher stakes being offered after the green light was given to New York’s new casino at Aqueduct.
