Darley shuttler Excels at Royal Ascot

Darley shuttler Exceed And Excel sired his seventh juvenile winner in four years at Royal Ascot when Best Terms landed the G2 Queen Mary Stakes on Wednesday.

Best Terms (2f Exceed And Excel – Sharp Terms by Kris) scored by a short-head over Shumoos (Distorted Humor) who had bolted in on debut at Haydock last month.

Exceed And Excel sired his first Royal Ascot winner courtesy of 100/1 long-shot Flashmans Papers in the 2008 Windsor Castle Stakes. Best Terms was allowed to go off at 12/1 despite recent victories at Windsor and Newbury

The winner provided trainer Richard Hannon and jockey Richard Hughes with yet another juvenile result at the Royal Meeting. “She’s a very decent filly,” Hannon said. “She’s a late May foal but by God she’s quick.”

Best Terms is a homebred for Robert Barnett and is a direct descendent of English Oaks winner Time Charter. Her dam Sharp Terms is back in foal to Exceed And Excel.

Hannon indicated Best Terms will be set for the G2 Lowther Stakes at York and G1 Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket.

Exceed And Excel can improve his Royal record with Burwaaz and Pyman’s Theory in the G2 Norfolk Stakes on Thursday and Sajwah in the G3 Albany Stakes on Friday.

In Australia, Exceed And Excel has sired 15 juvenile winners this season including dual G1 winner Helmet. He will stands at Darley Kelvinside for a $66,000 (inc gst) service fee this year.
