Darley sires sold to Ireland

Darley has sold its Japanese based stallions Moon Ballad and Grandera to an Irish stud.  The Group 1 winners will stand at Galway based Woodlands Stud in 2010.

Moon Ballad (Singspiel) was a five length winner of the G1 Dubai World Cup.  Earlier in his career, he won the Dante Stakes at York and was third home in the English Derby behind High Chaparral and Hawk Wing.

His dam Velvet Moon was a G2 winner of the Lowther Stakes.  She is a half-sister Darley stayer Central Park who was a G1 winner in Italy before finishing a gallant second to Rogan Josh in the 1999 Melbourne Cup.

Grandera (Grand Lodge) won the Listed Arc Trial at Newbury and was placed in the French Derby at three before joining Godolphin.  He went on to win Group 1 events in England, Ireland, Singapore and he was also G1 placed in the 2002 W S Cox Plate behind Northerly and Defier.

Grandera, who is a half-brother to George Washington, shuttled to Australia for four years until 2007.  To date, he has sired 30 southern bred winners from 73 starters.
