Tallow – Bred to Win – Saturday, 19 December 2009

Magic Millions co-owner John Singleton is bracing for a big month ahead with the Gold Coast yearling sale kicking off on January 6.  And Singo can get the holiday season off to a winning start when Tallow runs in the Inglis Bonus Hcp (Race 2 at 1.45pm AEDT) at Randwick tomorrow.

Tallow (3f Street Cry – African Queen by Lion Hunter) won first-up at Warwick Farm last month and was then placed behind Graceful Anna and Knot Out at Wyong on December 6.  She was on the wrong end of interference last time and will appreciate the extra furlong on Saturday.

Tallow is by Darley sire Street Cry who currently heads the Australian sires’ premiership courtesy of Melbourne Cup winner Shocking.  He’s also highballing in North America thanks to champion mare Zenyatta.

Tallow’s dam won 5 races at Toowoomba for trainer Jim Atkins and her only other foal to race is Eagle Farm winner Sharjah (E Dubai).  Second dam Creola (Palace Music) is a half-sister to Daneill filly Petite Dane (Kenilworth Fillies Nursery-LR) and Royal Academy filly Beauty School (Blue Diamond Preview-LR).

Singleton is also flying high in Japan with the Strawberry Hill Stud bred colt Oceana Boss who won the Golden Saddle Trophy at Hanshin on December 5.  He scored by two lengths with US hoop Calvin Borel in the saddle.

Oceana Boss (Red Ransom) is an older half-brother to the David Payne trainer colt Well Handled (Redoute’s Choice) and he won’t be long breaking a maiden when returning from a spell.  Their dam Touched By God (Sunday Silence) descends from Great Klaire (Great Nephew) who is a half-sister to Eight Carat.

Singleton presented his old mate Bob Hawke with a share in another promising racehorse at his 80th birthday bash last week.  When the former PM turned 70, Singo gave him a quarter share in a Dehere filly.  Named Belle du Jour, she won a Golden Slipper and her last-to-first victory sparked one of the more memorable post-race scenes ever witnessed at Rosehill.

The latest gift horse is named Sparkle Arkle.  She is also by Dehere and is from a half-sister to Toga Toga Toga (f by Saratoga Six), a G1 winner of the Santa Monica Hcp at Santa Anita.
