The first Australian bred foal by Darley sire New Approach has been born in Victoria. The chestnut colt was bred by Jack Hirsch and is from the unraced Filante mare Bonnie Ann.
New Approach (Galileo) was unbeaten in five races as a juvenile including the G1 National Stakes in Ireland and Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket. The following season he landed the English Derby plus the Irish & English Champion Stakes.
New Approach arrived in Australia for his second southern season on August 2 and will head to Darley’s Victoria base at Northwood Park after clearing quarantine. His 2010 service fee is $33,000 (inc gst).
Bonnie Ann is a sister to Melbourne stakes performer Star Rose who won 7 races for the Hirsh family. Their dam Pirate Rose (Al Hareb) is a three-quarter-sister to Hareeba who was Australasian Champion sprinter in 1995-96. She has a new season yearling filly by Darley sire Bernardini.
The Hirschs also race recent Mildura winner She’s A Nightstar who is by Darley sire Street Cry. Her dam She’s A Nightmare (Night Shift) has a 2YO colt by Reset and she was covered by fellow Darley sire Henny Hughes last year.
